Time for a Flutter?

Would you like to enter our competition?  A donation of 20 Euros to Syros Cats will you five opportunities to win one of our unique prizes.

We will be driving in Aimile, a bright yellow Citroen 2CV from Syros to London and back, posting clues both visual and literary, along the way. The final large prize will be for the person who guesses the total distance Aimile has travelled, from the Port of Hermoupolis to The Black Pig in Bulgari beach, Syros – the long way via London. Our route isn’t yet fully decided, so to make an informed guess, you’ll need to follow our blog to help you calculate the distance. The winner will be the person who gets closest to the final number of kilometres we have covered.

To encourage you all and keep you interested, there will be other smaller but unique prizes too, generously sponsored by those that support us in our ongoing work with the cats of Syros.

The first opportunity to win, will be a little less than a month into our trip. And on this special day for an accurate guess of the distance travelled so far, you can win a beautiful piece of silver jewellery, for yourself or the person you love, hand-crafted and generously donated by:

silverhind-jewellery.com

There will be other prize on offer for a spot guess during our route home – whatever that turns out to be and further prizes for guessing our maximum altitude, and our total spend on gasoline. All prizes are generously donated and we’ll spot-light our donors along the way. If you’d like to offer an extra prize and be part of our blog – just contact us.

How to Enter

·        Make a donation to Syros Cats of 20 Euros. This can be via PayPal (syroscats@hotmail.co.uk) or to Syros Cats Greek or UK bank accounts, details on the website syroscats.com. Use Aimile and your name as a reference

·        Go onto our website and send us a contact form, telling us how you have paid. This will register you in the competition and enable us to keep a record of your future guesses and ensure they are private. Exact details of how to register your guesses will follow.

·        Follow us on Adventureswithaimile.blogspot.com to see clues that will indicate our route and help your guesses be more accurate. You can leave us messages of encouragement here too. We may need them when the going gets tough!

The First Prize

·        Five days accommodation for two people in our Kini Cat Cottage – a one-bedroom apartment adjacent to Syros Cats rescue centre, and only a few minutes-walk from the beautiful sandy beach of Kini, with swimming if you choose in the pristine Aegean sea.

·        Daily breakfast with us on the terrace at the nearby Jasmine House – a traditional Greek village house - to include, fruit in season, Greek yoghurt, local eggs and cheeses, freshly baked bread, honey and home-made marmalade.

·        A half-day island tour with Aimile. Experience a ride in this classic car for yourselves –  maybe the weather is good enough to have the roof down!

·        If you are a cat-lover, you can also have a guided tour of our cat-rescue facilities in Kini and get to know some of our more iconic residents as well as joining our volunteers for the morning round of the cat-feeding stations in the village.

·        A dinner for two with wine at the much acclaimed waterfront taverna Dyo Tzitzikia Sta Armyrikia, renowned for its stunning waterfront location, friendly service and delicious Aegean cuisine

·        Collection and drop-off from the port or airport of Syros

·        To complete your holiday, we include, courtesy of Astreaus Holidays, https://www.astraeusholidays.co.uk/ A two night stopover in a boutique hotel in central Athens with transfers to and from Athens airport/Piraeus port. From here you can wander the quaint Plaka area, explore the iconic Acropolis and visit cultural museums.

(Please note flights to and from Athens and ferries/flights to and from Syros are not included, but we can advise about easy and cost effective ways to get here.)

Rules of the game

·        Distances will be measured in whole kilometres, altitude in metres, gasolene costs in Euros and times will be local – that is wherever Aimile is on the day.

·        Only kilometres accumulated while actually driving will count

·        If we are unable to complete the trip with Aimile, winners will be selected via a draw.

·        Winners will be announced in late March. Interim winners – within a few days of the kilometre guess point.

·        If two entrants submit identical guesses, the second will be moved to the nearest lower number available.

·        Timing of main prize is by negotiation. If our availability does not coincide with yours, we reserve the right to substitute other equivalent accommodation.

·        The main sponsor for the costs of our road trip, is The Black Pig on Bulgari beach, more details later – all donations for this competition, will benefit Syros Cats, a not-for-profit business that improves the lives of stray, abandoned and sick cats on the island.

·        You can enter as many times as you wish – but it will cost you 20 Euros a go. We don’t mind, it means we can feed more hungry cats this winter! Every 20 Euros buys half a sack of food!
